REVIEW: VAN HALEN - A DIFFERENT KIND OF TRUTH

by Ray Koob

As a guy who panned For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge in my initial review (having to eat my own words in the end), I have learned to be more cautious in these things. I even gave Van Halen III a close second listen before settling on my opinion (It was just okay).

It’d be easy to dismiss A Different Kind Of Truth as a sad attempt to rebuild a band long demolished. God knows that their first single from this album, “Tattoo,” has prompted many critics to dismiss the new record. Those critics would be as wrong as I was in 1991.

So many fans have reacted negatively to the song, despite it colorful lyrics. The success of that lead track is more a reflection on everyone’s desire to get back to the Diamond Dave days than the song’s ...

A CANDLELIGHT CONCERT FOR EPILEPSY AWARENESS

Posted 2/14/2012 11:31:00 AM

Last week, I received this note from Alan Miller, father of the man, Eric Miller who is putting together this benefit concert to help others dealing with epilpesy in their life:

"In August of 2011, my son's (Eric Miller's) bride (Carolina) of less than two years passed away suddenly from an epileptic seizure. She was only 25 at the time. Since then, Eric has taken upon himself to produce this fantastic Candlelight Concert for Epilepsy Awareness to be held on March 24th at the Patriots Theater in Trenton. All proceeds from the concert will go to the Epilepsy Foundation to aid in their quest to help others with this terrible affliction.

Performers include Dennis DeYoung of Styx, Corey Glover of Living Colour, Marshall Crenshaw of Beatlemania, Dan Reed and many more."
