Legends from The Beatles to The Who to The Rolling Stones have used love as a foundation for many songs, and most can still describe our romances and heartbreaks to this day!
Valentine’s Day is nearly upon us and it’s a time to pull out your favorite mixtape that you got from that high school sweetheart, and reminisce about the good ol’ days or the crap days of past.
With that in mind, we have come up with a list of our Top 5 Classic Rock Love Songs:
1. Eric Clapton “Wonderful Tonight”
This classic track has been played countless times at weddings and proms all over the world. Sometimes it doesn’t take a power ballad to hit the right note. Sometimes all you need are good lyrics with a good guitar riff to perform a legendary track. Clapton provides lyrics that will last from generation to generation.
2. The Beatles “Something”
The Fab Four have provided generations of people with classic song after classic song. This single was released back in 1969 but still rings true. It also happens to be the first Beatles song written by the Late-Great George Harrison to be featured as an A-side, appearing on the infamous Abbey Road.
3. The Rolling Stones “Angie”
It's tough to make any list without getting The Stones involved. This Keith Richards-written song is a real heart-breaker, telling the tale of the end of a relationship where there couple is left with 'no lovin' in their souls'. And if your name was 'Angie' in 1973, you most likely thought this song was about you.
4. Journey “Open Arms”
One of the most iconic voices leads the way on this love ballad, as Steve Perry belts out the song that has brought so many to tears. Or maybe that was just us...
5. Styx "Babe"
This 1979 hit was making women melt even before they found out that lead singer Dennis DeYoung had actually written the love ballad as a birthday present to his wife. Men everywhere have been trying to compensate ever since.
