The Kinks’ Dave Davies is “tired of waiting” for a new rock doc, so instead, he’s asking his fans for the money to hit the road.
Davies took to a crowd-funding site called Indiegogo for $30,000 to fund a documentary following him at five solo shows in November.
According to the project’s description, the rocker wants to “make a rocking live music performance visual experience, but interject this with other elements to create more of a road movie feel.”
Though the film, which is aiming for a spring 2014 release, would follow Davies as a solo act, he would do interviews with fans and share memories of the Kinks’ “life on the road in America.”
As has become custom with crowd-sourcing, the singer is offering incentives for fans who donate to the cause, including a digital download of the finished project, your name featured in the credits, a T-Shirt and poster, and even a meet-and-great with Davies himself.
Concerts Davies Hopes to Record:
- 11/12 City Winery, New York City
- 11/14 Bergen Performing Arts Center, Englewood, New Jersey
- 11/16 Bear’s Den, Seneca Niagara Casino, Niagara Falls, New York
- 11/18 City Winery, Chicago, Illinois
- 11/19 Evanston SPACE, Evanston, Illinois
With the opportunity to donate closing on November 3, Davies has currently raised a little over $2,000. To find out more about the project or to donate, check out the project’s official Indiegogo page here.
