The Babys are back.
Thirty-four years after its last album, 1980's "On the Edge," the group that was once fronted by John Waite and included current Journey member Jonathan Cain will release "I'll Have Some of That," a 14-song set of new material, on June 24.
The current Babys lineup features original members Wally Stocker on guitar and Tony Brock on drums, with John Bisaha singing lead and playing bass and Joey Sykes on guitar.
The Babys broke up in 1981, but Stocker tells us he and Brock have long harbored a desire to reactivate the band that produced hits such as "Isn't It Time," "Every Time I Think of You" and "Back on My Fee Again:" "Tony and I have been kicking this around for a few years and trying to get John (Waite) involved, and he's always sort of responded that he's got his own thing to do now and he's quite happy with that. Tony and I just sort of got on with what we were doing, but through the years we discussed it a few times, and I guess about two years ago he called me up and said, 'What do you think if we try and get it another shot? John's not that interested, so we're going to have to look for another singer.' So we decided if we could find the right singer who could pull it off, maybe it's worth giving it another go, and that's what's happened."
The new Babys have released a first single, "Not Ready to Say Goodbye," on iTunes, after previewing it last fall online. Tour dates are expected to be announced soon.
