With KISS about to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Paul Stanley releasing his memoirs and major buzz about a tour with Def Leppard this summer, it seems like there are dozens of wild KISS tales coming out of the woodwork, including how Eddie Van Halen almost became a member of KISS.
In a recent interview with Guitar World, Gene Simmons said that around 1982, Eddie told him he was tired of dealing with David Lee Roth’s shenanigans and wanted to join KISS. Gene, however, informed Eddie that “there’s not enough room” and that he should be in a band where he’d have more creative control.
David Lee Roth’s version of the story, on the other hand, is a little different.
According to his autobiography Crazy From The Heat (yep, that's the actual title), Diamond Dave says that Gene tried to lure Eddie away from Van Halen in the late 70’s before they band even released their debut album!
Regardless of what version of the story is true (and despite not hearing Eddie’s side yet), I think we can all agree that Eddie in KISS makeup would just be weird.
