The Rolling Stones returned to China earlier this week for the first time since 2006 to play the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Shanghai, and just like eight years ago, their set list had to be censored.
According to NME, Stones classics “Honky Tonk Women”, “Brown Sugar” and “Let’s Spend The Night Together” were banned by the Chinese Ministry of Culture for being considered too lewd.
They did, however, include the Sticky Fingers track “Dead Flowers” at the Shanghai show. I guess songs about heroin use are okay to perform. It also makes me wonder if songs like, “Bitch”, “Rocks Off”, “Let It Bleed” or “Rip This Joint” would make it past the Chinese Ministry of Culture.
