Though the Freddie Mercury biopic has been languishing in development for the past several months, 2014 is still shaping up to be a great year for Queen fans.
In a blog post on his official site, Brian May explained that he had met with Roger Taylor earlier this month to discuss plans for the near future, which include new tracks with Freddie’s vocals.
“We discussed new plans for… this year, and our forthcoming album with at least THREE previously unheard tracks with Freddie singing,” he wrote. “I didn’t think I’d be saying that either!! Working hard on this material now.”
May also opened up about his plans to take Queen back on tour this year, though he played coy about who would be joining them.
“We’ve also been looking at some dates – Roger and myself, and who knows who else,” he wrote. “But today… I saw an amazing working list of dates, and… well, I think we’re up for one more swing out there. In fact, in our Queen meeting today, we drank on it!”
As for that Freddie biopic, he added that they’re ready to get the ball rolling in 2014.
“It’s been a long haul as you know, trying to assemble the right team to make the film,” he said. “It’s not use assembling a team whose members are not available at the same time… But the line-up is looking very exciting… I think just the announcement will cause a bit of a sensation!”
May also shared that he was touring around with Kerry Ellis this February in support of their new concert DVD, The Candlelight Concerts – Live at Montreux 2013, which is due out the following month.
