Eddie Van Halen Named the Greatest Guitarist of All-Time

If guitarists were politicians, Eddie Van Halen would be president.

At least, according to the readers of Guitar World magazine.

Over the course of seven months, nearly half-a-million votes were cast to determine who was to be considered the Greatest Guitarist of All-Time.

The original 132 guitarists were then narrowed down to two: Eddie Van Halen and Brian May, who went head-to-head to win the title on Monday and Tuesday (Oct. 8 and 9).

Van Halen came out on top with 62.48% of the 27,179 votes submitted.

Other finalists included Alex Lifeson (Rush), Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath), Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin), Jimi Hendrix, Joe Satriani, and Stevie Ray Vaughan.

Eddie recently underwent emergency surgery for a severe Diverticulitis flare-up back in August, causing Van Halen to postpone their November tour dates scheduled in Japan.

The rocker is reportedly on the mend and will be recovering for the next four to six months.
