T Morgan Weekends

Who is this guy T and why is he here?
T. Morgan is a Philadelphia radio legend. He is considered to be the father of Classic Rock Radio in Philadelphia. In 1967,the very young DJ who was first on the air at age 15, was somehow able to convince a Philadelphia radio station to play a new brand of music that included artists like: The Doors, Cream, The Who, Jefferson Airplane, Bob Dylan, etc. It wasn’t long before the new music took over the FM radio band. Besides being on the airwaves, over the years, T. has been a record producer and been associated with many name artists. He has also helped write and research several TV specials on music. His love for Classic Rock brought him to WMGK. With his vast knowledge of music, he has helped write research and perform many of the famous weekend specials on WMGK.

What's New?

Philadelphia born David Bromberg and his Big Band reunion show will be at the Keswick Theatre in Glenside, Pa., on Saturday, February 23. He always puts on a great show and it has been some years since he lasted performed so you don't want to miss it.

Bromberg, a master of folk, blues, bluegrass and other roots music, is a current GRAMMY finalist in the "Best Traditional Folk Recording" category for "Try Me One More Time," his first CD in 17 years, released last February by Appleseed.

David's musical comeback after almost two decades as a violinmaker and -seller is one of the most satisfying stories of the year. Bromberg, who has been touring with an acoustic quartet, will be reconvening his electric 11-piece Big Band for the Red Bank show, adding jazz and ragtime to his eclectic mix of American musical forms. The Big Band performs on a quasi-annual basis, and every reunion is a much-anticipated event!

Classic albums

Every week or so we will take a closer look at a killer album. In order to be a classic album, it must be a real solid from start to finish with no fillers or fluff. How many times in the past have we heard one or maybe even two cuts that we love so much that we immediately run out to buy the album. After listening to the album at home, we come to realize that we already heard the one or two cuts that have any merit at all and quickly finds it’s way to the bottom of our music collection. These are not classic albums. A classic album gets played from start to finish and is an absolute MUST for any collection. Without it you just don’t a Classic Rock Collection. Have any ideas for classic albums? Let me know.

This Week’s Classic Album

This week's classic album was suggested by John Carter of Vineland . He thinks that SHHHHH by Ten Years After was an album that best captured the feeling of the exciting live group. .John, you are so right! The group was such a sensational live group that it was really hard to put them on record without losing that "live" feeling. I was lucky enough to become friends with TYA after did a tour with them. You just never get tired of their amazing stage show. Each member of the band is among the very best on thier instrument. it is little wonder that they sold out every major arena in the world.

We are delighted to add this one to the list of our essential Classic albums. Thanks for the suggestion John. Click here to check out all the albums that have been selected so far. Don't forget, if you have any questions, suggestions for a classic album or if you think you have a candidate for an unsung hero, let us know. We are looking for talented people who don't get the credit they deserve. They can be songwriters, back up musicians, producers, engineers, or even artists who do art work for albums. Let us know.
