If I was a member at Cog Hill, I might (perhaps jokingly) suggest the club consider changing its name to Tiger Hill. Woods has won there many times, but none more convincingly than this weekend’s BMW Championship where, by Sunday, there was really little doubt about the outcome.
By winning the third event in the playoff for the FedEx Cup, Tiger re-takes first place in the points standings. There was a lot of talk about players on the bubble, especially on Sunday where all Brandy Snedeker needed to do was NOT double bogey on the 18th to make the Cup cut. After missing a makeable par putt, he then appeared too casual on his bogey putt, which missed, and then (perhaps in frustration) lipped-out on the double bogey putt, missing, and made a 7, triple bogey, and it cost him. He goes from inside to outside looking in at the Top 30 who will play the final FedEx Cup event in Atlanta, in two weeks.
The Top 5: Woods, Steve Stricker, Jim Furyk, Zach Johnson and Heath Slocum are all in position to claim the $10 Million prize that comes with the big shiny trophy, if they should win in the final event in the playoffs.
Both Johnson and West Chester native Sean O’Hair helped their Cup standings with outstanding play on the weekend. In Tiger’s post-victory interview he said that it was an intense weekend and that he was looking forward to getting home for a few days. This recent stretch has been the busiest for the world’s #1 player in well over a decade. Kiss the wife, smell your kids, and get ready for the battle in Hot ‘Lanta, big guy!
