It’s really weird to be sitting here on a sunny Monday morning, staring at postponement of the golf event I was going to play in. The intense rain last week, and yesterday’s knockout punch of a deluge, flooded the course at Phil-Mont G.C., moving the Vince Kelly Memorial golf event to next Monday the 10th. Due to the change, some spots on the golf grid are open. Details are one item down on my BLOG.
I played last Monday with the Gooses, Bob, Bobby, and Jimmy Garaguso, at Ron Jaworski’s Running Deer. Between my missed hits and those intensely difficult greens, my score kept growing, even though I had a birdie, some pars, and a few single bogeys. Thanks to the guys, glad we finally got out. Let’s do it again soon.
Here are a few facts about Tiger Woods: He has lost only one time after leading an event after Saturday’s round, he has won 7 of 8 golf events he has played in on the same weekend as a NASCAR race at Pocono (thanks to 950ESPN’s Mike & Mike for that nugget), and always seems to win (or come close) at The Buick Open, one of his main commercial sponsors.
The world saw Tiger Being Tiger on that chip-in from the fringe that was on every sports segment in America probably. He hit a 2-3 bouncer, we all wish we had in our shot repertoire, for a chip-in from the edge of the green. Recovering from what he said was his worst putting round, maybe ever, on Friday, Woods kept the pedal down the whole way for a 3-stroke win at -20. Showing his mortality, on 13 on Sunday he put one in the drink, like we all do, then recovered for par, something we never do, right?
Kinda short column this week, I am off the air today after covering BJ/EJ on Saturday night, and figured I’d be too busy to even write this, given the golf plan for today. Gotta go find something else to do today, except pre-vacation laundry.
